Karan Adani Steps Up as Managing Director of Adani Ports SEZ, Ashwani Gupta Joins as CEO

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has ushered in a new era of leadership, announcing the appointment of Karan Adani as the new Managing Director, a role previously held by Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group. Simultaneously, Gautam Adani has been re-designated as the ‘Executive Chairman’ of APSEZ, one of the world’s rapidly growing integrated transport utilities.

Karan Adani’s journey with the Adani Group began in 2009 at Mundra Port, and he ascended to the position of CEO in 2016. Since then, under his stewardship, Adani Ports has witnessed extraordinary growth, playing a pivotal role in India’s infrastructure development. The company’s portfolio expanded significantly during his tenure as CEO, with the addition of four ports and terminals, reinforcing Adani Ports’ position as India’s largest and fastest-growing private-sector port developer and operator.

Today, Adani Ports boasts an impressive network of 14 ports along India’s coastline and two international ports, marking a remarkable footprint in the nation’s maritime sector. Additionally, through its subsidiary Adani Logistics Ltd., APSEZ stands as the largest and most diversified private rail operator in India, holding significant stakes in both logistics and harbour and dredging businesses.

In a strategic move to bolster its leadership, Adani Ports has also welcomed Ashwani Gupta, the former global Chief Operating Officer at Nissan Motors, as the new Chief Executive Officer. Karan Adani, expressing his confidence in this appointment, highlighted Gupta’s extensive experience and leadership skills, which are expected to drive significant growth and foster international partnerships. This aligns perfectly with the Adani Group’s ambitious vision for expansion and innovation.

Gupta brings to the table nearly three decades of rich experience across various sectors, including automotive, retail, and manufacturing.
