Statevolt, an American battery manufacturer, has announced plans to establish a significant $3 billion manufacturing facility in Ras Al Khaimah. Named Statevolt Emirates, this venture is set to create up to 2,500 jobs at its expansive 60-hectare site located in the Al Hamra Industrial Zone, part of the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (Rakez).
Founded in California in 2021, Statevolt has quickly emerged as a key player in the battery manufacturing industry. The new factory in Rakez marks a strategic expansion, focusing on major export markets that include Africa, India, the UAE, and the broader Middle East region. Lars Carlstrom, the Swedish automotive entrepreneur and founder-CEO of Statevolt, emphasized the strategic importance of this new facility in catering to these vital markets.
Rakez has been instrumental in facilitating this significant development, collaborating with Statevolt on initial set-up activities in the emirate. The zone is providing critical support for logistics requirements and ensuring the factory has sufficient energy to operate at full capacity. Following a commercial land agreement in Rakez, Statevolt is moving forward with building permit applications, targeting the operational launch of its first production line by the end of 2026.
Once operational, the facility is projected to reach an impressive annual production capacity of up to 40GWh. This development is a timely addition to the region’s burgeoning electric vehicle industry, as demonstrated by Abu Dhabi’s recent announcement of a $1.4 billion lithium processing plant. The plant, a collaborative venture between Kezad Group and Titan Lithium of the UAE, is geared to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide for global battery makers and EV manufacturers.
The establishment of Statevolt Emirates is a major boost to the regional manufacturing landscape, positioning Ras Al Khaimah and the broader Middle East region as key players in the global battery and electric vehicle industries. This investment not only underscores the growing interest in sustainable and renewable energy solutions but also reflects the region’s commitment to diversifying its industrial base and fostering technological innovation. As the world increasingly shifts towards greener transportation alternatives, Statevolt’s new facility in Rakez is set to play a pivotal role in supporting this transition.
