UAE Completes Free Repairs for 4,500 Homes Damaged by Record Rains

A total of 4,500 homes damaged by record rainfall in April have been repaired for free by Emaar Properties. The Dubai-based developer stepped in to offer these repairs after the UAE experienced the heaviest rains in 75 years, leading to significant damage in various communities across Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates.

Emaar Properties, responsible for several prominent communities including Downtown Dubai, Emaar South, Dubai Hills Estate, Dubai Creek Harbour, Arabian Ranches, Dubai Marina, and The Valley, announced the completion of these repairs by the end of June. The initiative provided much-needed relief to residents affected by the unprecedented weather event.

In addition to Emaar, other major developers such as MAG and Damac Properties have also announced similar free repair programs for homes impacted by the storms. This collective effort underscores the commitment of these developers to support their communities during challenging times.

In response to the severe weather and its impact, the Dubai Government unveiled a comprehensive project in June to enhance the emirate’s rain drainage network. With an investment of Dh30 billion, this project aims to boost the drainage system’s capacity by 700 percent, ensuring coverage across all areas of Dubai and significantly improving its resilience to future heavy rainfall.

Emaar Properties has also reported strong performance in the first half of 2024, launching 30 projects and selling 8,400 units, marking a 56 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Notable projects such as Address Residences Zabeel and Palace Residences Dubai Hills Estate saw rapid sales, with 2,500 units each sold in just seven days. The company also awarded 50 construction contracts worth Dh8.7 billion between January and June 2024.

During the mid-year internal staff rally, Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar Properties, emphasized the company’s dedication to excellence and innovation. He stated, “Our performance in H1 2024 shows Emaar’s relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation. We are not just managing businesses; we are shaping legacies and transforming communities for a prosperous future.”

In addition to the housing repairs and strong project launches, Emaar also highlighted the impressive footfall at Dubai Mall. The mall, which was the most visited place on Earth in 2023 with 105 million visitors, recorded an 8 percent increase in foot traffic in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Dubai Opera also enjoyed record-breaking attendance, attracting 250,000 spectators.

This comprehensive approach to both immediate relief and long-term development reflects Emaar’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors in Dubai, ensuring the emirate remains a leading global destination for living, working, and tourism.
