How to use the converter
- Choose the direction: US dollars to dirhams, or dirhams to US dollars.
- Enter the amount. The result at the official rate updates as you type.
- If a bank or exchange house has quoted you a rate, enter it in dirhams per US dollar to see what it costs against the official rate.
How it is calculated
Dirhams = US dollars × 3.6725
US dollars = dirhams ÷ 3.6725
Cost of a quote = amount at the official rate − amount at the quoted rate, in dirhams
Results are shown to two decimals. The rate itself is not rounded: the converter uses 3.6725 exactly.
The official rate
Official US dollar rate
USD 1 = AED 3.6725
The UAE dirham is pegged to the US dollar at USD 1 = AED 3.6725; the CBUAE's published USD rate was 3.6725 on its exchange rates page last updated 20 October 2026.
- Applies to
- Official AED/USD exchange rate
- Source
- Exchange Rates (last updated Tuesday 20 October 2026), Central Bank of the UAE
- Checked
Because the dirham is pegged, the rate does not move from day to day the way most exchange rates do. The Central Bank still publishes daily rates for other currencies against the dirham; the converter covers the US dollar only.
Foreign-currency amounts on VAT invoices
Central Bank exchange rate at the date of supply
If a supply is made in a currency other than the UAE dirham, the amount stated on the Tax Invoice is converted into dirhams at the exchange rate approved by the Central Bank of the UAE on the date of supply.
- Applies to
- Tax Invoices for supplies in foreign currency

Worked example
Worked example
Converting USD 2,500 at the official rate and at a quote of 3.65
The amount and the quoted rate are illustrations.
- At the official rate: USD 2,500 × 3.6725 = AED 9,181.25.
- At the quote: USD 2,500 × 3.65 = AED 9,125.00.
- Difference: AED 9,181.25 − AED 9,125.00 = AED 56.25, or 0.61% of the official rate.
The quote gives AED 56.25 less than the official rate.
Assumptions and what the converter leaves out
- Fees. Transfer fees, card charges and commissions come on top of any rate difference and are not included.
- Other currencies. The converter covers the US dollar only.
- History. The converter uses the rate in the registry, checked on the date shown in the source box above, not a historical rate.
Note
Why the dirham is pegged and what the peg means for interest rates is explained in the AED to USD peg. Customs converts the value of imported goods into dirhams before charging duty: see the customs duty calculator.
